Gilmore-ified White Russians 7.02 That's What You Get Folks, for Makin' Whoopee"
“White Russian, TJ.” “She’s trying to liquor me up. I can see where this is going.” “It better not.” “We’re really into White Russians recently.” “It’s our thing.” “Yeah.” “Of course, mine’s a virgin.” “Ironically.” “Just cream. So…I’m ready to talk.”
2 oz freshly brewed espresso
2 oz vanilla vodka
2 oz coffee liqueur
2 oz heavy cream
Add espresso, vanilla vodka, and coffee liqueur to a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
Drizzle chocolate syrup into a glass and fill glass about halfway with ice.
Strain the cocktail over the ice.
Using a milk frother or electric mixer, froth the cream so that it’s slightly foamy. Pour the cream over the cocktail and gently stir so that it begins to combine.
Liz and TJ are currently into White Russians, despite Liz just drinking cream because she’s pregnant. I’m not going to comment on how disgusting that sounds. Traditionally, a White Russian cocktail is vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream. But of course, I had to ‘Gilmore-ify’ things by adding coffee to the cocktail. I also swapped regular vodka for vanilla vodka to sweeten the drink slightly. It’s too bad Luke and Lorelai broke up because this would definitely be a cocktail that’s perfect for Lorelai.
I do want to comment on not making dessert sushi for this episode. I know several people were excited for me to make that whenever I got to this episode, but I made the decision early on in this project that I wasn’t going to make dessert sushi. The Asian cultural appropriation in this episode is really problematic, and I felt uncomfortable making a dish that’s a major part of that storyline. Thank you for understanding.
Happy cooking from the Hollow!
