Homemade Marzipan. Season 4 Bonus Dish!
“What is that?” “Marzipan!” “Marzipan?” “The finest marzipan in all of Europe, made by cloistered nuns.”
Recipe adapted from Ella Vegan
45 grams almond flour
35 grams powdered sugar
2 ¼ tsp water
¼ tsp almond extract
¼ tsp rose water
Green and orange* food coloring
*If you don’t have orange food coloring, you can use red and yellow to create orange.
Add the almond flour and powdered sugar to a food processor and pulse until combined and a fine powder appears.
Add in the water, almond extract, and rose water. Pulse until a smooth paste forms.
Divide the marzipan into two small bowls. With ¼ in one bowl and the remaining ¾ in the other bowl.
Add a couple of drops of green food coloring to the bowl with a quarter of the marzipan. Fold until the marzipan turns green.
Add a couple drops of orange food coloring to the bowl with the remaining marzipan. Fold until the marzipan turns orange.
Shape the orange marzipan into carrot shapes by rolling it out in your hands to form a log then pinching the bottom part to form a point.
Shape the green marzipan into carrot tops by rolling it out in your hands to form a tiny log, then pinching in the middle.
Add the green tops to the carrots.
I couldn't say goodbye to season 4 just yet, so I made one more dish before I start on season 5 next week. If you were in my Instagram stories a few months ago, you may remember the great marzipan debate! Some people really loved it, others hated the stuff! So I ordered different kinds to try for myself, and I actually liked it. Is it my favorite? No, but I did enjoy it! I ended the taste test by saying, maybe one day, I'd make my own marzipan. Well today is that day! I know Lorelai gets a marzipan bunny which is perfectly Easter, but I'm not a sculptor (believe me I tried), so I settled on bunny food, carrots.
Season 5 kicks off next week, and I should (hopefully) have a little bit of a blog site update, so be on the lookout for that! In the meantime…
