The Lemon "Why did you Drop Out of Yale" Martini 6.08 Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out

“No Yale, why did you drop out of Yale?”

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz vodka

  • 1 oz limoncello

  • ½ oz lemon juice

  • ¾ oz lavender simple syrup (you can use regular simple syrup too)

To garnish:

  • Lemon wedge

  • Granulated sugar

  • Lemon peel

Directions:

  • Chill a martini or coup glass in the freezer for about 30 minutes before serving

  • Add ingredients to a glass beaker or a jar with lots of ice. Stir vigorously for at least 1 minute.

  • Rub the lemon wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip into the sugar.

  • Strain the drink into the prepared glass and garnish with a lemon peel.

Okay, this is probably a BIG stretch for “inspired by” this episode. But let me tell you, I really struggled to find something to make that they mention. Food hardly makes an appearance (a rare occurrence). Logan does suggest burgers when he, Rory, and Jess have dinner together, but spoiler alert, I’m saving burgers for a very special episode. So then I had the idea, what if I made a lemon drop martini for the iconic Jess line from this episode “WHY.DID.YOU.DROP.OUT.OF.YALE.” Like honestly, are you even a fan if you didn’t read that in his voice and cadence? And because martinis are a staple for Friday Night Dinner it felt like the right move.

Now, if you’ve been here for a while, you know I have an obsession with lavender, and I like to sneak it in when I can. You can absolutely use regular simple syrup for this drink, but I just think the addition of lavender with the lemon is so nice. So cheers to Rory getting back into Yale!

Happy cooking from the Hollow!
