Homemade Pickles 7.05 The Great Stink

“Hey, what’s going on?” “Uh, well Stars Hollow smells like pickles.” “Pickles?” “Pickles.” “Pickles, pickles?” “Pickles.” “Why?” “Because a pickle train crashed.”

Ingredients:

  • 0.5 oz fresh dill

  • 4-6 small persian cucumbers

  • 1 ½ cups water

  • 1 cup distilled white vinegar

  • 1 tsp pink Himalayan salt crystals

  • 1 tsp black peppercorns

  • 1 tsp pink peppercorns

  • 1 tsp cardamom seeds

  • 1 tsp dried minced onion

  • 1 tsp celery seed

  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp sugar

Directions:

  1. Roll a large glass jar over the fresh dill to lightly bruise.

  2. Add the cucumbers and the dill into the large dill.

  3. Combine the water, vinegar, spices, and sugar. Heat in the microwave or over medium heat and stir until the salt and sugar dissolve.

  4. Pour vinegar mixture over the pickles and dill. Seal jar with the lid and place in the fridge for at least 5 days to pickle.

Of course, I had to do something with pickles for this episode. I think pickles are mentioned in this episode at least 30 times! So there is actually a funny story about me and pickles. See, for pretty much my entire life, I didn’t actually like pickles. However, I’m always telling people to retry food they don’t like because your taste buds change. I felt like I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t do this myself with pickles. About a month ago, I tried a pickle again, and I didn’t hate it? I don’t really like pickles on their own, but I don’t mind them on sandwiches or other foods. The next logical step for me? Make my own pickles! This was a fun experiment, I definitely want to make pickles again.

Happy cooking from the Hollow!
