“I've bartended for you, for your parties.” “That's right, you have.” “You're a talented man. He makes a kick-ass margarita.” “Thanks” “It's good to see you again. What's your name?” “Marty.”
Ingredients:
For Logan’s Margarita, The Master and Commander
Ice
2 oz gold tequila
½ oz mezcal
¾ oz triple sec or Grand Marnier
½ oz simple syrup
A couple dashes of angostura bitters
Orange peel to garnish
For Rory’s Margarita, The Ace
Ice
2 oz tequila blanco
1 oz Aperol
¾ oz triple sec
½ oz lime juice
Lime wheel to garnish
Directions:
For The Master and Commander:
Add ice to a cocktail shaker and add the tequila, mezcal, triple sec, and simple syrup.
Shake until the metal becomes chilled. If you don’t have a metal cocktail shaker or one at all, you can use any clean jar with a lid. Shake for about 15-30 seconds or until it feels cold.
Add a single large square ice cube to a rocks glass. If you don’t have a large ice cube mold, you can just add a few regular ice cubes to a glass.
Double strain the drink over the ice. Add a couple dashes of angostura bitters and garnish with an orange peel.
For The Ace
Add ice to a cocktail shaker and add the tequila, mezcal, triple sec, and lime juice.
Shake until the metal becomes chilled. If you don’t have a metal cocktail shaker or one at all, you can use any clean jar with a lid. Shake for about 15-30 seconds or until it feels cold.
Rim a rocks glass with lime juice then dip into a plate of tajin. Fill the glass about halfway with crushed ice.
Strain the drink over the ice. Add the lime wheel to the rim of the glass to garnish.
Consider this my unofficial start to the unofficial Drinking Gilmore cocktail project, which I’ve thought about doing after finishing this project. No promises! In this episode, we learn that Marty is a bartender and makes a kick-ass margarita. As this is the episode in which Rory and Logan meet, I decided to make margaritas inspired by both characters.
For Logan's, I did a play on a margarita-styled old-fashioned. I used a gold tequila and mezcal to mimic the color and smokiness of an aged bourbon. I also added triple sec (would Logan probably use Grand Marnier? Yes, but we're going budget-friendly here) and simple syrup and topped the margarita with a few dashes of angostura bitters. Naturally, I had to name this margarita, The Master and Commander.
For Rory's, I created an Aperol margarita. Aperol is an Italian liqueur, and it's known for its bittersweet flavor profile. Since Rory just got back from Italy, and she too is known for her bittersweet personality, I thought it was the perfect base for her margarita. Plus, the color is very similar to the famous Rory cocktail from her 21st birthday (you may be seeing that in the future). I rimmed the glass with tajin because she can be quite chilly and fiery. Her cocktail is obviously called The Ace.
Happy Cooking from the Hollow!
